Valerie Hefner

Office

Running for State Representative, Texas, District 62 (2018)

Biography

Valerie Hefner is a Sherman native, a daughter of immigrants, and an incredible example of the American Dream in action. Her concern over the futures of her two children who both suffer from pre-existing medical conditions, as well as the future of her husband, a disabled veteran, motivated her to run for office to represent the concerns of other working middle-class citizens.

“As a mother and a wife, I know the struggle of working families. We need a strong voice in Austin. As a representative I will protect your right to buy insurance, even if you have a preexisting condition. We need to focus on people first. Focus on our schools, our healthcare, and our neighbors.”

Hefner’s children attend Sherman public schools, and she plans to refocus the legislature’s attention away from scapegoating vulnerable children, and onto funding classroom teachers. “We need to strengthen, not abandon, the promise of public education. Our students deserve a safe place to learn.”

Hefner’s focus is also on rights for marginalized groups including the LGBTQ community and immigrants. “My family experiences have taught me that inclusion makes us stronger. We need to welcome, not attack, new members of our communities.”

Valerie is convinced that Grayson, Fannin, and Delta counties can have a bright future. “I believe in people first. Help me turn District 62 blue!”

Priorities

Everyone Just Needs A Chance

That means good healthcare for all of us – access to the care and support that keeps us healthy and able to contribute to our community.

That means good education for all Texas children – arming our children with the job skills and even more importantly the values that prepare them to be good citizens and to hold competitive jobs.

That means taking care of our immigrants who are an important part of our communities – immigrants who add to our economy and our quality of life.

That means treating all of us with dignity and respect.

With your help I can be part of a government that Texans can trust and a representative who is focused on helping the people she’s elected to serve.
